The House of the City Mayor Nikolai Loskovich


Nikolai Osipovich Loskovich was born in 1858 in a peasant family. When Nikolai was 28, he graduated from Vilnius Teachers Institute. Several years he worked as a teacher of mathematics, geography and history. In 1894 Nikolai Osipovich moved to Polotsk and became a lecturer at the local teacher’s seminary. Later he also became a teacher in Polotsk women’s gymnasium. In 1908 Nikolai Loskovich took the post of the City Mayor. On that post he worked seven years till 1915. At the age of 57 he married a peasant woman. They had 2 children. Two-story stone mansion, where the family lived, has been preserved to the present day.
